Pet Therapy

This is Happy the horse, a certified pet therapy animal. In Virginia there is a therapeutic riding program run by  Breenna Bornhorst. She finds that horses connect really well to people with disabilities. When reading this article it hit home when talking about a little boy having autism. As mentioned earlier, my brother was diagnosed and when reading how Happy was able to provide the right therapy to a 9 year old with autism it was heart warming. Cathy Coleman a speech therapist worked with a boy named Ryan. After having him interact with the horse she noticed improvement not only in his speech but his mother noticed changes in other aspects of his life. Ryan’s mother says,  “It’s helped his following directions, some really core life skills about getting dressed and balance — which really translate to a lot of safety issues, too.” I see this sometimes with my own brother, after interacting with animals certain aspects in his life benefit from it. This article was very nice to read and I liked how they mentioned another animal other than a dog that can be certified as a therapy pet and can help others.
